Original price was: $540.00.Current price is: $320.00.

Description

This 17-inch wide end-grain cutting board is made from exotic woods, including Purple Heart, Mayan Walnut, Bubinga, and Sapele.

It is 17″ wide by 14 and 1/8″ long by 2 and 1/4″ thick.

This end-grain cutting board began with the online purchase of ethically sourced exotic woods imported from various locations. The wood was cut into appropriately sized strips, glued up, cut into more strips that were flipped so the end grain was on top and bottom, and glued up again. The finished board was sanded “through the grits” up to 320 grit, using a Festool random orbit sander, sprayed with water to “raise the grain,” and then sanded again with 320 grit. After waiting a few days for the glue lines to raise, I sanded the board one more time with 320 grit.

It is reversible – top and bottom have a juice groove, and all four sides have inset handles. The corners and edges are sanded down and rounded over, and the inside edges of the juice grooves have been carefully sanded down so there is a gentle slope from the center to the groove.

It was finished with Walrus Oil cutting board oil and wax.

It is among the first cutting boards I made. It has some minor defects, like “dents” from oversanding, visible glue lines, and some “wander” on the juice groove and handles from where I cut them “freehand” with a router. None of them affects the board’s functionality, and all are visible in the photographs. The price has been adjusted accordingly.
