This chess box is made from Ipe (reclaimed wood from an old deck purchased at a salvage store) and Basswood.
When closed, the chess box is 13 and 5/8″ long by six and 7/8″ wide by 2 and 3/8″ deep. When opened, the chess board measures 13 and 5/8″ square by one and 1/8″ deep.
The board was finished with a single coat of Total Boat marine varnish to darken the wood a bit, followed by multiple thin coats of epoxy.
When closed, the box is held shut by strong magnets. Very strong magnets – this board will stay closed, no problem, but it takes extra effort to open. Inside, the bottom of the storage compartment is lined with velvet to protect the finish of your chess pieces or other items stored within.
Your Ipe and Basswood chess box comes with a set of carved wooden chess pieces, contained in soft, black drawstring bags, one for each color.
All chess boxes are handmade and may feature various minor defects that do not affect the functionality of the box or chess board. Any defects you find have been taken into account when pricing the box, and will be visible in the photographs.
